Where to find the best free Wedding Invitation Fonts

If you want to design your own wedding invitations, or if you're thinking about doing some DIY signs or favours then Times New Roman just won’t cut it. You need to use a font that is a bit more fancy.

There are so many free for personal use fonts out there that you will be spoilt for choice, but the below are just some of the best places to find letters that will match your other special details on the big day.

Before looking for any fonts, you should always make sure you’re downloading from a reputable source. I can't vouch for each and every font on the below sites, but I have never personally had any issues with files that I have downloaded from these sources. Despite this, always be careful and use bug checking software/don't download anything that is highlighted as suspicious. A computer bug is the last thing you need mid-wedding planning.

Font Squirrel

Font Squirrel is one of my favourite places to find free Wedding script fonts. They have a great range of different styles, available for commercial use as well as personal.

If you happen to find your perfect font somewhere (probably Pinterest, let's be honest), but don't know what it is, they also have a font identifier, where you can upload a picture of your desired wording and it will try to match it to the closest font available. So handy, believe me.

These are just a few of the gorgeous fonts on Font Squirrel that would look amazing on an invite, or maybe the all important cocktail list!

Font Space

Font Space has 33,000 fonts! Most of their fonts are for personal use only, which is fine if you're just making things for your own wedding but it can mean that sometimes they don't include all of the different characters or symbols you might need.

Here are a couple of free wedding calligraphy fonts that they have on their site, so you get the idea...

There are tonnes of other free font sites like Da Font, and 1001 Fonts which you can also check out. I don't tend to use those sites as much because I've had some issues with the quality, but definitely worth trying if you have a specific style in mind.

More Freebies

If you want something a bit more unique, check out the following sources who give away free fonts for a limited time only. That way there is a much smaller chance that you will end up using the same font as every other couple that year.

Creative Market

These guys give away 6 free resources every week, usually with at least one free font. There are also sometimes some great floral elements too if you want to get creative. Check out this week's freebies here...

A few last pointers

  • Remember to make sure all of your text is legible and you can read all of the words clearly. There is no point having the prettiest invitations, but no one turning up to your big day because they couldn’t read the directions.

  • As I've mentioned, always check the license – if you’re using it for your own invitations, signs etc then a personal use license is fine but as soon as you start making designs for your friends, family and their friends and family and start charging, then you need a commercial license.

  • If you need any extra help downloading and installing your free script wedding fonts then check out this 'how to' guide from Font Squirrel - https://www.fontsquirrel.com/help or drop me a message and I will try my best to help.

If this is all too much and you don't fancy creating your own wedding invitations, please check out our Etsy store for Invitation Suites that you can edit yourself and print at home.
