1. Blanket basket

If your wedding venue includes some outdoor space and it’s guaranteed to be cold, then make sure your guests keep warm with an addition of some cosy blankets in a cute rustic box or basket.

You can make your own DIY sign (tutorial here if you need it) to go with the basket for an added rustic touch.

2. Hot chocolate bar

Another great way to warm up your guests is to provide them with hot chocolate.

To make it even more special, set up your own hot chocolate bar with different additions, flavours and cookies to go with it. Penandpaperflowers have a full printable set of signs and labels so you can build your own and make it look super stylish in the process!

3. Fairy Lights & Candles

One of the easiest ways to add some magic to a winter wedding reception is to hang up plenty of fairy lights and light lots of candles/buy LEDs. As it is likely to be pretty dark from early on in the day, and possibly even gloomy, you need as much extra light as possible, and the glow from your extra lighting will give you just that.

You can put them anywhere; add lights to hanging branches and trees, fill clear baubles or jars with fairy lights or have pillar candles in large holders with added holly and berries. There is no limit!

4. A Winter cake

This is a bit of a vague one, but anything with winter flavours (cinnamon etc) can become the perfect winter wedding cake.

And then for decoration, you can add some flowers that match your arrangements and some berries, or some more intricate details like trees or this amazing cable knit on the right. You can have it as plain or as elaborate as you like but it will still be another nice touch and another good addition to your ideas for a winter wedding.

5. Candy Cane Favours

For another decor addition that your guests can eat, candy canes are a great winter wedding favour idea. Easy to find and cheap to buy, they are an adorable little accent to each table, especially if you're going for a red and white theme.

Tie each guest's name tag to one and lie on top of a sprig of something evergreen and it becomes a very smart way to organise your place cards.

6.  Pine Cone Place Names

One of my favourite place name ideas (spoiler, I did it at my own wedding reception!) and one which you can customise to go with your winter wedding colors, is pine cone place names.

Spray them gold, silver or with snow spray to make them extra wintery and then add a name tag in your chosen colour for an easy and very cheap way for your guests to find their seat.

7. Sparklers

Sparklers are so much fun and will add an extra touch of sparkle to your big day. Give them out as favours or put a box near the door for people to use them as a send off for you when you leave. Just remember to have adults supervising if you have kids at the wedding, and only use them outside and not near anything flammable.

They can also make some amazing effects on photographs - speak to your photographer to see what tricks they have up their sleeve!

8. Mulled Wine Cocktails

It wouldn't be a wedding ideas list without at least one boozy option! Keep your guests warm and jolly with some mulled wine cocktails on your drinks menu, or as your welcome drinks and add delicious additions like orange peel and cinnamon sticks for extra decoration.

If mulled wine isn't your thing, you could also do some warm cider or a christmas themed cocktail.

9. Mistletoe Decorations

Hang some mistletoe up around your venue for plenty of cute photo opportunities as well as a very winter specific decoration. Your single friends might even thank you for this one too!

You could also add bits to your centrepieces, bouquets or other floral arrangements.

There are so many ways you can do it without breaking the bank as well - use lots of white flowers, spray some branches silver and stand them up, use small christmas trees and decorate them or you could just use a christmas wreath and place candles in the middle...
