1. Hang names on a string

There are many ways you can do this - use a large photo frame and tie string on either end, or use a large wooden board and nail in hooks for the string to tie to. This is what I did for our Wedding reception, and it turned out great. I added a photo to each of the table cards and used household wooden pegs to hang them.

2. Write on a mirror

One of the most elegant examples of a seating plan that I have seen recently is with the use of mirrors. You can use a modern framed mirror or a more classic vintage one, and write each table and set of names out

With modern calligraphy being so huge at the moment, there are plenty for sale on Etsy. ScrittoUK are currently offering this one above, but do also offer various different designs.

If you're in the US, try HawaiiCalligraphy

3. Use lots of Photo Frames

This is a pretty simple but classy choice and it's something you could make at home by gluing lots of different photo frames together.

Chose similar frames for an elegant theme, or completely mismatching ones for something a bit more quirky - just make sure they have enough surface area on each side to be able to stick to each other, or you could stick each one to a large bit of card or wood to make it more sturdy.

Buy your frames from Hobby Lobby in the US or The Range in the UK.

4. Use a map

For the nomadic Bride and Groom-to-bes, this is the perfect choice. Theme each table a place you have both been or are planning to go, and use luggage tags to write all of your guest's names.

You don't even have to use a World map though, you could just use a local map and make your tables represent each of your favourite places, or make it a map of where you're going on your honeymoon where each theme is a different area you will visit. It is such a fun idea that can be done in so many different ways.

5. Buy a printable

This is one of the easiest options, and also a very cheap way, of showing your guests where they have to sit on your big day. Buy, download and then print out at your local printing company and then all you need to do is find a pretty way to display it (an easel is always useful for this!)

There are lots of different styles online, but if you want a reasonably priced one that you can edit yourself at home then check out this one below Smitten Paper Props on Etsy

6. Chalkboard Sign

Especially good if you have neat writing, this is the perfect choice if you think you may have some last minute changes up until the day of the wedding.

You can get blank chalkboards from lots of craft shops or if you can't find one that is the right size, get some chalk paint and paint a large canvas or blank board. You will then want a chalk pen rather than just chalk pastels which tend to be a bit clumsier and messy.

7. Stick them in a planter

One of the cutest and most creative seating chart ideas that I have seen is using sticks to place each table list in a planter, or in separate plant pots.

This is especially perfect for a rustic outdoor wedding or a something held somewhere a bit more quirky like a barn. The one below has all different festival names as the theme, which fits perfectly with the style of seating plan.

8. A wooden sign

Following on from the last rustic table plan, another gorgeous seating plan idea is just to write on a wooden sign, and then decorate with foliage. You can stain it any colour you like and use different colour writing to create a one of a kind sign that is completely unique to you.

This one from Sweet NC Collective is personalised to your specification but you can also make your own. For a tutorial on how to make a painted wooden sign using a stencil, visit my post here

9. Find something unique to write on

If you have a unique theme, both of you are into the same hobbies, or have similar interests, then look for something interesting and a bit different that you can write on.

This surfboard seating plan is so cool and would be the perfect choice for a beach wedding but I've also seen couples who like board games use monopoly as a backdrop, those that like a tipple stick table lists in empty alcohol bottles and nature lovers clip leaves to string.

Basically the world is your oyster when it comes to planning the perfect seating plan so get creative!

10. Don't use a table plan at all

If you don't want to spend the time on a table plan, or don't have anywhere to display it then don't have one at all!

Instead, lay out each name tag with a number under the guest's name for which table they will be sitting at, and let them find their own way there and pick their own seat. This also saves you time laying out the name tags on each table when setting up.

Or of course, you can not do any kind of table choosing, although that can sometimes end in chaos if you have lots of people and limited space!
