The 10 Best Original Guest Book Ideas

A great way to save even more memories from your big day is to get all of your guests to sign something that you can keep and cherish forever. That something doesn't have to be just a standard guest book however, there are tonnes of other creative ideas out there!

Ideally you want something you can use again and again, or that you can display somewhere in your home. Check out some of the best ideas below...

1. A Jigsaw...

...or Jenga

I love the thought of bringing out a puzzle or a game to make or play together as a family, and getting to re-read all of your lovely wedding messages at the same time. This is truly something you can keep forever and have lots of fun with while you're at it.

Look for a blank jigsaw, or blank jenga pieces, or get a set made especially so it is customised just for you.

2. Thumb Print Picture

I love this idea - each guest leaves their unique thumb print and their name and it becomes a gorgeous print that you can hang anywhere in your home. There are loads of different designs that you can do that are personal to you both, like this adorable bike and balloons one below from WeddingFusions.

Just make sure none of your guests come near your dress with their inky fingers!!

3. Polaroid Guest Book

If you want to see your guests' lovely faces as well as their lovely messages, then a polaroid guest book is a fun and quick way to capture the evening celebrations.

You can get Polaroid cameras at a fairly decent price on Amazon or Ebay, get a printed sign like the below from TheLittleBride and a scrapbook for your guests to stick their pictures straight into and there you have a ready made guest book and photo album that requires 0 effort on your part!

4. Wooden Sign

If your wedding theme is quite rustic or outdoorsy then a blank wooden sign is the perfect way to capture the names and messages from all of your guests. It also makes a beautiful sign to hang up in your home afterwards.

You can make your own from some reclaimed wood, or get one made. I love these letter shaped ones from TheBestDayEverStore below.

5. A globe...

If you're having a destination wedding or a travel theme then the obvious thing to do is to bring a bit of adventure to your guest book too. That could be in the form of a sign-able globe...

...or a map

...or a gorgeously framed world map covered in lovely names and messages.

It doesn't have to be a world map of course, you could just get a map of your country, town, state, continent, your favourite fictional land... wherever your favourite place might be!

6. Messages in a bottle

This is such a cute way to capture some precious messages, and it gives guests the chance to write something really meaningful that no one else will see.

Just make sure you are prepared to wait a whole year to read them if you order this below one from AmysCraftEmporium!

...or messages on a bottle

This is such an amazing idea, especially if you are both into your wine. Each guest signs a bottle of their choosing, each of which will be drank on a different anniversary.

Such a great way to remember your wedding for years to come!

7. An Illustration

I think if I was to do our Wedding again, I would get an illustration like this that we could frame and hang. I just think they have so much character and they're so original!

The amazing one below is from MissDesignBerryInc but if you know someone who is good drawer, you could get a canvas and ask them nicely to make you your own!

8. Video Messages

I can see this becoming more and more popular as absolutely everything moves to digital so you may as well get ahead of the crowd! Set up a little booth somewhere at your venue and invite all of your guests to sit and leave a digital message to you that you can watch (and laugh) at them after the big day.

This is also an amazing way to share your big day with any future children (just make sure the messages are PC first!)

9. Drop Box

These cool guest books are a bit like a game of 4 in a row! Except much prettier, and not competitive at all. Each guest signs a wood piece and adds them in a slot in the sign

10. Scrapbook

Of course, if you do want to stick to a traditional guest book then go for it. You can make your own with pen and transfer paper (I have a tutorial for that here) or get some custom decals from Love Life Lettering's store and stick them to a standard scrapbook.

Or get a super fancy custom made book complete with calligraphy names and gold foiling, like this one below from starboardpress.

Or completely skip having one at all! The best thing about guest books are that you can do without, or you can go all out, whatever works for you!
